A LANDMARK BUILDING WITH MODERN SOPHISTICATION
The Bank on Collins is located on a prominent corner site on Collins Street, and was formerly the site of ‘The Bank of Australasia’, and until 1978 home to ANZ Bank. Built in the 1830s, The Bank on Collins is one of the few remaining buildings on Collins Street showcasing the architectural beauty that was born from the wealth of the Melbourne Gold Rush. As such the building is listed with the Australian Heritage Commission and National Trust of Australia as a heritage site.
Retail Savvy Group acquired the site in 2015, and after months of extensive renovations and detailed refurbishments, The Bank on Collins opened its doors as Collins Streets’ newest bar and restaurant in October 2015. Featuring a 17 metre bronze bar top, 18 copper beer taps, 3 gold wine taps, private dining and cocktail spaces, the venue stays true to its ornate and historical past while offering a stylish and modern venue for Melbourne’s locals and visitors alike.
Designed to keep the integrity of the buildings’ Gold Rush history The Bank on Collins features many unique interior features. The Private Dining Room wallpaper was first published 22 May 1901 and depicts legendary corporate financier J.P Morgan as a bull blowing bubbles for eager investors. The wall of the main dining room is covered with copies of original theatre artwork and advertisements from the late 1880s to early 1900s, while our Cocktail Room showcases a collage of Australian criminal mug shots from NSW dating 1919 – 1927. We guarantee each time you visit you will find a new detail to enjoy.
Old world grandness and opulence meets modern sophistication and style at The Bank on Collins. Perfect for after work drinks, corporate lunches or dinners, weekend breakfast, private functions, engagement parties and weddings.
