HOMAGE OF A GOLDEN ERA FOR A MODERN CARLTON
The Shaw Davey Slum is on the site of the old Pugg Mahones in Carlton.
Opening it’s door mid May of 2014, is already turning heads. Located just around the corner from Lygon St, on the corner of Elgin and Drummond St, this location was the perfect spot for this new 60’s style venue.
The Retail Savvy Group again led the design and construction phase to transform the old Pugg Mahones site into a brilliant and colourful homage to Australia’s golden era, the 1960’s. The venue has to be seen to be experienced.
A play on words. The Shaw Davey Slum is based around the poverty report in 1958 written by two commissioners named Shaw and Davey about Carlton and surrounding areas.
The name is an oxymoron and a celebration to Carlton’s diverse history of a great era for Australian Culture.
“The Slum” as it has been termed is unique in style, presentation and represents great value for money.
The Slum is located just off Lygon St with an openable rooftop; 36 gold plated cricket stump beer taps; a cocktail list representing our interpretation of the traditional 1960’s milk-bar candy selection; hand made concrete bar top embedded with 24 carat gold & silver leaf on the ground floor and seashells on the top floor; a full service dining room focused on unique Australiana flavours, styled with traditional Australian bush spices.
The Slum is about providing incredible value for money in a unique environment, perfect for special events and functions or just a casual drink after uni or work. We pride ourselves on being able to deliver fantastic value for money every hour of the day.
